Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 6, 2026

This policy explains what personal information Janai School (operated by Mana Kiyosawa) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We comply with Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI) and handle your data as described below.

1. What we collect

  • Account information — your name, email address, and login credentials, managed through our authentication provider (Clerk).
  • Payment information — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number; we keep only references such as your Stripe customer ID, plan, and billing status.
  • Learning data — lesson progress, practice results, activity streaks, viewed content, and 1-on-1 slot bookings.
  • Messages — questions you submit to the community and messages you send us through the contact page or email.
  • Technical data — IP address and basic request logs generated by our hosting and authentication providers for security and operations.

2. How we use it

  • providing and operating the Service (accounts, content access, progress, scheduling);
  • processing payments and managing subscriptions;
  • responding to your questions and providing support;
  • sending service-related notices (for example booking confirmations or important changes);
  • understanding usage to improve the curriculum and the app;
  • preventing fraud and abuse, and complying with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

3. Who we share it with

We share personal data only with the service providers we rely on to run Janai School, and only to the extent needed:

  • Clerk — authentication and account management
  • Stripe — payment processing and billing
  • Supabase — database hosting (learning and subscription data)
  • Resend — transactional email delivery
  • Vercel — application hosting
  • YouTube — embedded video and live streams (YouTube may set its own cookies when you play a video)

Beyond that, we disclose personal data only with your consent, when required by law, or when necessary to protect the safety of users or the public.

4. International transfers

We operate from Japan and serve users worldwide. The providers above store data on servers that may be located outside your country (primarily the United States). We choose providers with appropriate security practices and transfer safeguards.

5. Retention

We keep your data while your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except for records we must keep by law (such as transaction records) and minimal data needed to resolve disputes or prevent abuse.

6. Security

Access to personal data is limited to what operating the Service requires, and all our providers encrypt data in transit. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect your information.

7. Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and ask us about how it's used, by contacting support@janaischool.com. We will respond within a reasonable period, in accordance with applicable law.

8. Cookies

We use cookies that are necessary for signing in and keeping your session active. We do not use advertising cookies. Embedded third-party content (such as YouTube videos) may set its own cookies, governed by that provider's policy.

9. Children

The Service is not intended for children under 16. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 16, we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. For material changes we will give notice on the Service or by email. The latest version always lives on this page.

11. Contact

Privacy questions and requests: support@janaischool.com or via the contact page. This policy is governed by the laws of Japan.
